Here at Hotel Engine, we believe a company is only as extraordinary as its people. We’ve dedicated ourselves to improving the lives of business travelers but want to show off the people who help make that happen. Every month, we’ll be doing a Q&A with one of our amazing team members to showcase the folks behind the scenes of Hotel Engine.

Michelle joined us in 2019 as a Software Engineer. Her tenacity and willingness to help out all departments make her an incredible addition to our team. So, let’s get to know Michelle!

Where are you from?

Queens, NYC.

Do you have a nickname at work?

Nope, just Michelle.

What’s your favorite part about your team?

Besides having a cool name (Phoenix), I appreciate that my team actively cares about creating and maintaining morale.

What’s your spirit animal and why?

My friend in college said it’s an ocelot, which is halfway between a housecat and a jaguar. They’re wild cats but they don’t roar, just kind of chuckle and mumble to themselves. Goofy but low key savage. They’re also nocturnal.

What do you love about working for Hotel Engine?

I love the engineering challenges, having space to focus on code quality/architecture, and getting to know great people both in and outside of engineering.

What do you think is unique about working at Hotel Engine?

I came from freelancing, and teaching before that, so everything about working here feels unique. It’s fun to be in the office and there’s good work-life-balance.

What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?

I like to travel, spend quality time with people I care about, and work on other tech projects/ideas. And see creative people do their thing, whether it’s music, performance, movies, TV, there’s so much talent out there that’s accessible now.

Let’s hear it for your humble brag!

I’m pretty nice at Tetris?

What’s your favorite HE value?

“Failure is success if you learn from it.”

What’s your favorite thing about living in Colorado?

Friends, family, and the bipolar weather.
